
A shark attack off Australia’s east coast claimed the life of a 25-year-old woman and left a 26-year-old man seriously injured, authorities confirmed on Friday.
The incident occurred Thursday morning at Crowdy Bay, around 40 miles south of Port Macquarie in New South Wales, prompting an immediate response from emergency services after reports of two bite victims.

A witness provided first aid before paramedics arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Authorities believe both victims were visiting from Switzerland. Their identities have not been released as police continue their investigation into the attack.

The beach remained closed Friday while officials prepared a detailed report for the coroner, and safety measures were reviewed to prevent similar incidents in the area.
