Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon called the Karachi Circular Railway and the Karachi-Sukkur high-speed train key priorities for the provincial government and urged the World Bank to support both projects. He said these initiatives would be game changer for Sindh and that the government wants the World Bank to take an active role in moving them forward. A high-level World Bank delegation met the senior minister, who also serves as the provincial minister for information, transport and mass transit. They discussed ways to improve urban mobility across the province, strengthen the transport system and review different models.
Shajeel Inam Memon briefed the delegation on the Yellow Line BRT project, which is being developed with World Bank support. He noted that work on one section, the Taj Haider Bridge, has been completed and that the remaining work is progressing quickly. He added that decisions about the Yellow Line are being made with the public interest in mind. He said timely support from the World Bank is needed to complete the project on schedule, and that the Sindh government is committed to providing affordable and fast travel options. He added that in recent years the federal government handed over the Green Line BRT to Sindh, and daily ridership under Sindh’s management has risen by 33,000.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said Karachi still needs more buses to improve urban mobility, and that the World Bank’s support would be valuable. He said cooperation is needed not only for the Yellow Line but also for future transport plans. The World Bank delegation praised the province’s transport initiatives and asked the Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon to support railway projects as well. Delegation said that Karachi is a major city in the region and has a strategic location for access to Central Asia.
Separately, Memon directed the Information Department to complete all film and media projects as soon as possible and to publicize the province’s ongoing mega projects and development work in a timely and effective manner. He has also instructed the department to take the necessary steps to align its production work with modern requirements and improve technical standards. An important meeting of the Information Department was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon at his office in Karachi.
During the meeting, he received a briefing on the ongoing projects and directed the concerned authorities to speed up the work according to the set targets. The meeting also reviewed the progress of film projects under the Sindh Information Department, the institution’s overall strategy, and matters related to promoting the national narrative. Speaking on the occasion, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Sindh government wants the national narrative, national unity, peace, tolerance and development initiatives to be presented effectively through films, documentaries and other creative content. He said promoting a positive message in society through the media is the need of the hour.
He added that the Information Department should create content across all film and media sectors that highlights the province’s culture, public interest, government performance and national narrative in a simple and effective way. The province’s culture, history, social issues and public service sectors can be prominently presented through films and media. He said the provincial government is also taking various steps to provide opportunities to young filmmakers and media professionals so new creative talent can emerge and the positive narrative can be strengthened.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that comprehensive plans should be prepared to effectively convey the progress made in major development projects, infrastructure improvements, and the transport, health, education and energy sectors to the public. The meeting was attended by DG Information Moiz Pirzada, Director Advertisement Yousuf Kabooro, Director Admin Mansoor Rajput, Director Films Hizbullah Memon and Deputy Director Sarang Latif Chandio.
