EU pledges full support for Ukraine until peace

Published on: November 26, 2025 11:45 PM

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen vowed that the European Union will fully support Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved. She stressed that Europe will stand with Kyiv every step of the way. Von der Leyen called the revised US plan a “starting point” for ending the conflict.

Von der Leyen highlighted that the EU is working to strengthen Ukraine while ensuring Europe’s influence in peace talks. She noted that negotiations on the US plan aim to lay groundwork for a settlement. However, she warned that Russia has shown little willingness to stop the war. The situation remains volatile but also offers opportunities for progress, she added.

The EU is also planning to use frozen Russian assets to fund a 140-billion-euro loan to Kyiv. Von der Leyen said European taxpayers alone will not bear the cost. Belgium, which holds most of the frozen assets, is delaying approval of the legal framework. Officials hope EU leaders will formally approve the loan plan at the December summit.

She emphasized that the EU and NATO partners will play a major role in implementing any future peace treaty. Von der Leyen stressed, “Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. Nothing about Europe without Europe.” The EU is coordinating closely to ensure Ukraine’s interests remain central in all negotiations.

Von der Leyen concluded that Europe’s commitment to Ukraine is unwavering. She reaffirmed that the EU will continue to support Kyiv diplomatically, financially, and politically. The EU’s efforts aim to sustain Ukraine and push for a fair and sustainable peace agreement.
