‘Adolescence’ wins Golden Rose at Rose d’Or Awards

Published on: November 20, 2025 3:02 AM

In recent announcements, made by Rose d’Or Awards said that the event’s most prestigious honour, the Golden Rose, will be given to Netflix’s drama Adolescence.

The drama co-created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, the Netflix drama has recently earned a record-breaking sweep.

The Golden Rose award is given to a programme or series that has made an exceptional contribution, transcending the normal expectations of the genre and becoming part of national and international discourse.

It had earned a finalist nomination in the Drama category at the 64th Rose d’Or Awards, which honour excellence and innovation across global television.

The Golden Rose award is considered as top award, given to a programme or series that has made an exceptional contribution, transcending the normal expectations of the genre and becoming part of national and international discourse.

Previous winners include Chernobyl in 2019 and the ITV documentary, Storming the Capitol: The Inside Story, in 2021.

Chair of the Rose d’Or Awards, Mark Rowland, said, “Adolescence exemplifies the values of this special Golden Rose award – outstanding programme-making that changes the way people think about a subject. Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham have created a work of true emotional and cultural impact and we are thrilled to recognise their achievement at this year’s Rose d’Or Awards.”

Adolescent writer Jack Thorne will attend the prize in London on December 1. The drama Adolescence is based on a story of a boy accused of murder after he discovers ‘incel’ culture online. The film had an average of 45 million views per month and became a must-watch for parents.

Earlier, on September 15-year-old star Owen Cooper made history after becoming the youngest-ever male Emmy winner as the show cleaned up at a glittering ceremony in LA.

The teenager, originally born in Washington, was awarded “Best Supporting Actor” for his breathtaking performance as Jamie Miller in a four-part Netflix show. It was filmed when he was just 14.

Owen received a standing ovation as he took to the stage to receive his award from Sydney Sweeney, who hugged him, as he left behind stars such as Javier Bardem to receive the award.
