Punjab’s Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has congratulated the public, Parliament, coalition partners, and all political leaders on the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling it a historic development that will further strengthen Pakistan’s democratic, constitutional, and defence framework.
She said that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif played a leading role in the drafting, consultation, and approval process of the amendment, while Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, leaders of coalition parties, and all members of Parliament ensured democratic decision-making through complete consensus.
Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized that Parliament is the highest and supreme institution of Pakistan, whose fundamental responsibility is the continuous improvement of the Constitution and the strengthening of national institutions. She stated, “Rejecting the decisions of Parliament is a violation of the Constitution. Those who do not accept the authority of Parliament are neither democratic nor constitutionalists.”
The Senior Minister said that the 27th Amendment has strengthened state institutions. Opposition to this amendment, she added, is effectively a rejection of constitutional supremacy and parliamentary authority. She said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf damaged national institutions, including the judiciary, for personal and political interests and used them to create division, therefore no support for positive constitutional advancement can be expected from such elements.
She further said that the amendments relating to the Field Marshal and other military positions will reinforce Pakistan’s defence. The inclusion of the Chief of Defence Forces-a modern military structure adopted in several countries-will enable the armed forces to perform their defence responsibilities with greater coordination and effectiveness.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that incorporating the rank of Field Marshal into the Constitution is a national acknowledgment of the services of Pakistan’s brave armed forces- the same forces that secured historic victories for the motherland in operations such as Buny?n-e-Mars?s and Ma’rakah-e-Haqq.
She added that after the 27th Amendment, Pakistan’s constitutional, democratic, and defence architecture has become stronger than ever before, and this development will serve as a milestone for national stability, institutional harmony, and the country’s security.
