US Military Latin America Operation Announced

Published on: November 14, 2025 11:56 AM

US Launches Military Operation in Latin America

The US announced a new military operation in Latin America called Operation Southern Spear. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said it targets narco-terrorists and protects the Homeland. He posted on social media that the mission aims to remove drugs and related threats. No specific details were provided on how it differs from existing operations. Experts warn the announcement raises tensions across the region.

The Trump administration is already carrying out an anti-drug campaign in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific. US forces have struck about 20 vessels since September, killing at least 76 people. The naval build-up includes aircraft carriers, F-35 stealth planes, and multiple Navy ships. Officials said the operation combines air and sea activity to counter drug networks. Analysts said the deployment signals a stronger US military presence in Latin America.

Sources said senior US military officials presented new operational options for Venezuela, including possible land strikes. Caracas responded with a nationwide military deployment to defend its coast. Venezuela fears the US presence may be a hidden regime change attempt. Both sides have reinforced positions and increased surveillance in the Caribbean region. Experts said the situation could escalate quickly if miscalculations occur.

The Pentagon did not provide additional details and referred all questions back to Hegseth’s social media post. Media reports said US officials are reviewing all options carefully before any land action. Regional governments are monitoring the situation closely, urging restraint from both sides. International observers are calling for diplomacy to avoid broader conflict. Analysts warned that tensions could disrupt trade and security in nearby countries.

Observers said the US military Latin America operation could reshape regional security dynamics. Operation Southern Spear will likely continue with coordinated naval and air missions. Tensions with Venezuela remain high, and both sides are on alert. Analysts said a prolonged presence could affect civilians and trade routes. The world now watches closely as the US military Latin America operation unfolds.
