Delhi on edge after car explosion near Red fort Metro station

Published on: November 10, 2025 10:43 PM

A powerful explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station in New Delhi killed eight people on Monday morning. Police said the blast occurred close to Gate No. 1, where a car suddenly exploded. The explosion sent thick smoke into the air and caused panic among commuters and residents. Within minutes, rescue teams and police reached the site to control the situation and assist the injured. Authorities confirmed that at least eleven people suffered serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Firefighters rushed to the area soon after the blast. They battled flames that spread quickly to six nearby cars and three auto-rickshaws. Officials confirmed that seven fire tenders worked together to bring the fire under control. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud boom that shook buildings and shattered windows. Many residents stepped outside in fear as thick black smoke covered the street. Police then cleared the crowd to allow emergency workers to continue rescue operations safely.

Investigators from the Delhi Police Special Cell arrived at the scene to examine the blast site. They began collecting evidence to determine what caused the explosion. So far, officials have not confirmed whether it was an accident or a planned attack. However, initial reports suggest the car contained explosive materials. Police have sealed off the area and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops and metro cameras.

Meanwhile, authorities placed both New Delhi and Mumbai on high alert. The decision came after security agencies received warnings of possible threats. Earlier on Monday, Indian media reported a major raid in Haryana, where police seized around 2,900 kilograms of bomb-making materials. Investigators are now checking if there is any link between the Haryana seizure and the Delhi blast. Additional security forces have been deployed at metro stations, airports, and crowded public areas.

Residents of the capital remain shaken by the sudden tragedy. Many expressed anger over recurring security lapses in the city. The government has urged people to stay calm but vigilant. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to receive a full report on the incident later today. As the investigation continues, Delhi police have promised transparency and swift action to find those responsible for the deadly explosion.
