Wheat sowing campaign launched

Published on: November 3, 2025 12:36 AM

Director General (DG) Agriculture (Extension) Punjab Chaudhary Abdul Hameed has launched the Wheat Sowing Campaign 2025, urging farmers to adopt modern technologies to achieve maximum production with minimum input costs.

During his visit to Chak Jhumra tehsil’s village Chak No.21-JB, the DG met local farmers and inaugurated the wheat sowing process using a super seeder. Responding to farmers’ queries, he highlighted that the Super Seeder technique saves 10-15 percent seed while increasing yield potential by nearly 20 percent.

He also inspected baler machines deployed under the anti-smog initiative and instructed field staff to educate farmers on the harmful effects of crop residue burning, while promoting eco-friendly alternatives. Agriculture officials expressed confidence that these efforts would lead to record wheat yields, promote environment-friendly farming, enhance farmers’ income, and contribute to national food security.

Chaudhary Abdul Hameed conducted surprise inspections of fertilizer and seed dealer outlets to review price compliance and quality control. He emphasized that overcharging will not be tolerated and that farmers must receive standard fertilizers and seeds at official rates.

Meanwhile, he chaired a high-level meeting with divisional agricultural officers in Faisalabad to finalize a comprehensive strategy for the campaign. Directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, and agriculture officers participated, focusing on modern farming methods and farmer facilitation programs. Addressing the meeting, the DG said, “Increasing wheat cultivation and productivity is a national priority. Farmers must be equipped with modern technology to achieve sustainable growth.” He also directed officials to ensure timely Kissan Card registrations and continue the anti-smog campaign.

Later, a special coordination meeting was held with UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali to strengthen collaboration for the campaign. The VC confirmed that over 4,000 students, teachers, and agricultural experts would actively participate from November 08 to 16, providing farmers with hands-on training in advanced wheat sowing techniques. The DG briefed the VC on the village-level implementation plan designed to maximize field outreach.
