Karachi’s traffic police have launched an extensive crackdown on heavy vehicle violations across the city, intensifying efforts to restore order and improve road safety. Over the past four days, authorities have issued 416 e-challans to violators, imposing fines worth more than Rs8.1 million. The operation comes amid rising concerns about congestion, accidents, and rule violations caused by the unchecked movement of heavy transport vehicles in restricted areas.
The campaign, led by DIG Traffic Mairaj Sheikh, focuses on enforcing strict compliance with traffic regulations and ensuring that heavy vehicles operate only during permitted hours. Officials said the drive aims to maintain smoother traffic flow, particularly during peak hours, when heavy vehicles often disrupt movement on Karachi’s main roads. Moreover, police teams have been instructed to maintain zero tolerance for repeat offenders and ensure consistent monitoring.

During the operation, the traffic police took firm action against a variety of vehicles, including 25 dumpers, 39 trucks, 104 water tankers, four oil tankers, two buses, and three cranes. These vehicles were found violating entry restrictions, parking rules, or timing regulations in sensitive zones. Authorities stated that the enforcement drive has already helped reduce traffic jams in key areas such as Shahrah-e-Faisal, Korangi Industrial Area, and SITE.
To further strengthen the campaign, special monitoring units have been deployed across major routes to track habitual violators through surveillance systems and electronic monitoring. The teams have been tasked with maintaining a steady traffic flow and preventing large vehicles from entering prohibited zones during office hours. This real-time tracking system enables the police to respond quickly to violations and keep roads clear for public transport and private commuters.

Officials believe the ongoing campaign will not only reduce traffic congestion but also prevent accidents and improve overall road discipline in Karachi. They urged vehicle owners to cooperate with authorities and follow designated routes and schedules. The traffic police also plan to expand the crackdown in the coming weeks, targeting more high-risk areas and strengthening enforcement mechanisms to ensure long-term compliance with road safety regulations.
