Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police conducted a flag march in the federal capital to ensure public confidence and maintain law and order in view of the prevailing security situation.
An official told APP on Monday that the march, held on the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, was led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and passed through various areas of the city with participation of police contingents and vehicles.
The purpose of the flag march, the official said, was to demonstrate the force’s preparedness and to assure citizens that their lives and property remain fully protected.
He added that ICT Police will not allow any miscreant to take the law into their own hands or create distress for the public. “Anyone attempting to disrupt peace will be dealt with strictly and with an iron hand,” the spokesperson said.
The official further noted that Islamabad Police believes in service to the people and continues to take measures to provide citizens with ease and security. He appealed to the public to cooperate with police and immediately report any suspicious activity by dialing the emergency helpline “Pucar-15.”
The police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies remained on high alert across Rawalpindi Division on Monday to maintain law and order and ensure public safety in view of the prevailing security situation.
According to a spokesman for the divisional administration, all law enforcement bodies were working in close coordination with the local authorities to maintain peace and protect the lives and property of citizens. “The step has been taken on the directions of the Punjab Government, with Section 144 already in force across all districts of the division,” he said.
The spokesman said that under the prevailing restrictions, all kinds of political, religious and social gatherings – including sit-ins, rallies, processions, demonstrations and protests – had been strictly prohibited.
He added that the measure was aimed at safeguarding public life, ensuring tranquillity and preventing any breach of peace.
The spokesman further said that the police, Rangers and other security agencies were fully prepared to respond promptly to any untoward situation. Patrolling had been intensified, while special teams had been deployed to keep a vigilant watch on sensitive areas and maintain a constant state of readiness.
He urged citizens to act responsibly, avoid unnecessary movement and extend full cooperation to law enforcement personnel. He also advised the public not to pay heed to rumours and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or district control room.
The spokesman warned that any violation of Section 144 would invite strict legal action, including arrests, registration of cases and other penalties as prescribed by law.
