
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim on Monday addressed a joint press conference at the Perdana Putra Complex, the Office of the Malaysian Prime Minister, ahead of delegation-level talks aimed at expanding Pakistan–Malaysia cooperation across diverse sectors.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz received a guard of honour and a warm welcome from his Malaysian host upon arrival at the venue, marking the formal beginning of his three-day official visit to Malaysia. The national anthems of both countries were played as the two leaders stood at the salute dais.

Following the ceremony, the leaders introduced their respective delegations before holding a one-on-one meeting and subsequently engaging in delegation-level talks to review bilateral ties and identify new avenues of collaboration.

The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing trade and investment cooperation, as well as expanding partnerships in IT and telecom, the Halal industry, education, energy, infrastructure, and the digital economy. Both leaders also emphasized people-to-people exchanges and cultural connectivity as a cornerstone of future relations.
Prime Ministers Shehbaz and Anwar will also witness the signing of multiple agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation in both existing and emerging sectors.
The Pakistani delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.

Upon his arrival at Bunga Raya International Airport on Sunday night, Prime Minister Shehbaz was received by Malaysian Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Syed Ahsan Raza Shah, and senior diplomatic staff.
Before his departure from Pakistan, Shehbaz expressed optimism about the visit, describing it as an opportunity to deepen trade and economic engagement with Malaysia. “I will be undertaking an official visit to Malaysia [from] October 5–7 on the invitation of my dear brother, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Greatly looking forward to a comprehensive exchange of views on our common desire to enhance trade and economic engagement as well as bilateral cooperation in various fields,” Shehbaz wrote on X before his flight.
He added that the visit would also include discussions on important global and regional issues, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Malaysia in pursuit of shared prosperity and regional stability.
