The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rain, winds, and thunderstorms in Karachi and parts of Sindh starting today and continuing through October 2. The warning was issued Monday in a press release, urging local authorities to take preventive measures amid the expected wet weather conditions.
The PMD said the rainfall is linked to a well-marked low-pressure system over India’s Gujarat region, which is moving west-northwestward. As a result, moist currents from the northeastern Arabian Sea are now entering southeastern Sindh, increasing the likelihood of rainfall across a wide region.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Mirpurkhas, Umer Kot, Sanghar, Khairpur, and other surrounding areas. Heavier rainfall is likely in Tharparkar, Umer Kot, and Mirpur Khas, where moderate to heavy showers could cause temporary flooding in low-lying areas.
The Met Office also announced that a fresh westerly weather wave is expected to reach upper parts of Pakistan by October 3. It urged all concerned departments to remain alert and take the necessary steps to prevent any damage or emergencies caused by the unstable weather.
This forecast comes in the wake of record monsoon rains earlier this year, which led to widespread flooding in Punjab and Sindh, damaging infrastructure, disrupting exports, and slowing economic recovery. The Tropical Cyclone Warning Center of the PMD continues to monitor the evolving system closely.
