The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has firmly stated that September 30, 2025, remains the final deadline for filing income tax returns. In a statement issued Monday, the FBR dismissed circulating reports of an extension as false and misleading. It urged taxpayers to file their returns on time to avoid penalties and late-filer status.
FBR noted that most taxpayers live in areas unaffected by floods, and therefore have had sufficient time to fulfill their legal obligation. The board emphasized that its IRIS portal is fully operational and that no technical barriers exist to filing. It also confirmed that a new, simplified return form is available and functioning as intended.

The clarification comes after rumors spread on social media and in news outlets suggesting a deadline extension. The FBR responded by warning that such misinformation could mislead taxpayers and encouraged people to rely only on official updates. It further stated that in cases of extreme hardship, taxpayers may request a 15-day extension, but only if they pay due taxes by September 30 and receive approval from the concerned committee.
Last week, Salim Valimuhammad, Chairman of the Pakistan Chemical & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA), called for an urgent extension. He cited recent sudden changes in the filing process and confusion among taxpayers. However, the FBR responded by saying no changes have been made to the Income Tax Return Form-2025 through any official notification or SRO.

In its final message, the FBR urged all eligible taxpayers to act promptly and file their returns accurately and honestly. Failure to do so, it warned, would result in legal consequences, fines, and late-filer restrictions. The board continues to encourage compliance as part of its broader push to increase documentation and revenue generation.
