LHC moved for ban on use of social media apps by children

Published on: September 14, 2025 1:39 AM

A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday, seeking the court’s order for legislation to ban the use of social media apps.

Making the federal government, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and others respondents in his petition, Azam Butt, a citizen, said that by using Facebook and TikTok, children were exposed to inappropriate content. “This not only distracts their attention from studies, but they also indulge in immoral activities,” he argued.

The petitioner further said that in developed countries, there was a ban on the use of social media by minors. He went on to say that the PTA had not taken any steps to protect children from the harmful effects of social media.
