Kasim warns: Pakistan’s democracy needs help

Published on: September 13, 2025 3:28 PM

Kasim Khan, son of former prime minister Imran Khan, has publicly stated that Pakistan’s democracy is under threat. He urged international defenders of democracy and human rights to speak out. According to Kasim, his father is being punished for standing up for democratic principles and refusing to back down.

In a passionate statement, Kasim called on the global community to support Imran Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He said the rule of law must be restored and the people’s voice must be respected. He emphasized that silence from the world would encourage further political repression. His message aimed to rally support beyond Pakistan’s borders.

My father, Imran Khan, is in prison because he stood up for democracy. He is held in solitary confinement, denied access to his doctors, and restricted from meeting his lawyers and family. At the same time, members of his family and thousands of his supporters have been abducted…

Imran Khan has been imprisoned since 2023 and faces multiple charges, including corruption and revealing state secrets. PTI leaders and supporters have also been arrested in cases linked to the May 9 protests, which erupted after Imran’s arrest. Protests led to the deployment of armed forces in several provinces, including Punjab and Balochistan.

Kasim alleged that his father is kept in solitary confinement and denied medical care and legal access. He also claimed that thousands of PTI supporters, including family members, were abducted or brought before military courts. He described the treatment as politically motivated and unfair.

Calling the ongoing legal actions “political revenge,” Kasim said this was not justice. He insisted that Pakistan’s democratic institutions are being dismantled under the current system. He ended his appeal by urging human rights defenders to act before it’s too late.
