Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a detailed report on the recent floods in the province. The floods have caused severe damage, killing 97 people in various accidents. More than 4,500 villages suffered damage due to rising water levels in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. The report highlights the widespread impact on both urban and rural areas.
According to the report, Chenab River floods affected 2,334 villages, while 672 villages suffered near the Sutlej River. Meanwhile, the Ravi River floods impacted 1,482 localities. In total, about 4.5 million people have faced hardships due to the floods. These numbers reveal the scale of the disaster and the urgent need for relief efforts.
The PDMA has also moved 2.45 million people trapped in floodwaters to safer places. To provide shelter and aid, authorities set up 396 relief camps in the affected districts. The camps serve as temporary homes and centers for medical and food assistance. This quick response has helped many families escape the immediate dangers.
Besides people, the floods endangered livestock. The report states that 1.9 million animals were safely relocated to secure areas. This move is crucial for farmers who rely on their animals for livelihood. It also prevents further economic losses in the already affected communities.
The Punjab government continues to work closely with rescue teams and volunteers. They urge citizens to stay alert and cooperate with officials during this crisis. Relief and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing as the floodwaters slowly recede. The authorities remain focused on restoring normalcy and helping those impacted rebuild their lives.
