On the directives of the Chief Minister Sindh, the administration and all concerned departments remained fully active after the rains in Karachi. Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, visited several parts of the city to review drainage and traffic arrangements and issued further directions to ensure maximum facilitation for citizens. The Chief Secretary visited the Tower, Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, M.A. Jinnah Road, Metropole and other major thoroughfares, where he inspected the situation and appreciated the timely response of the field officers.
He categorically directed that all Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Police, Traffic Police, Rescue 1122, PDMA, and KMC teams must remain in the field throughout the rain spell to ensure smooth traffic flow, timely dewatering, and immediate assistance to citizens in case of emergencies. Recalling the challenges faced during the previous spell of rains, the Chief Secretary emphasized that this time traffic police are actively providing real-time information to citizens through FM 88.6 and social media platforms, enabling people to choose safe alternative routes and avoid inconvenience.
The Chief Secretary said that the joint efforts of all institutions have proven successful. Traffic flow was maintained, drainage arrangements remained effective, and citizens received greater relief compared to previous rains. He praised the efforts of traffic police, district administration, and KMC, highlighting that due to timely interventions, water was drained quickly from key arteries. He was briefed by the authorities that the KMC and PDMA have installed dewatering pumps and machinery at multiple locations across the city, while Rescue 1122 and police teams remain on high alert to provide immediate assistance. The Chief Secretary reiterated that providing relief and facilitation to citizens is the top priority of the Sindh Government. He stressed that teamwork, institutional coordination, and timely actions are the keys to effectively managing the situation and ensuring public safety during rains.
