Indian-Backed Terrorism And UNGA Theme

Published on: September 6, 2025 2:03 AM

September 6, 2025 by Hassan Ahmad

Pakistan’s concerns regarding Indian-sponsored terrorism are multifaceted and deeply intertwined with the country’s security and diplomatic efforts. Upcoming 80th session of the UN General Assembly scheduled from 9 to29 September 2025 will be a contesting ground as usual for both Pakistan and India to present the prime concerns. Theme selected for UNGA session is “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development, and human rights.” Pakistan has a shining track record of maintaining its commitment to global peace and the advocacy for non-violent solutions of the critical security challenges being confronted regionally and globally.

Pakistan repeatedly accuses India of sponsoring and financing terrorist groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which have carried out attacks within Pakistan. Presentation of dossiers to the UN Secretary-General, comprising irrefutable evidence of India’s involvement in terrorism, has given credence to Pakistan’s stance.

As the UNGA is all set to conduct the 80th annual session, its focus on cooperation, peace, human rights, and development starkly contrasts with India’s peace-spoiling actions in South Asia.

Indian state-sponsored terrorism is a prime concern for Pakistan. This particular point has been consistently raised through diplomatic channels by Islamabad at all regional and international forums. Since India uses terrorism as a tool of state policy, threats to the regional peace are growing exponentially with every passing day. Indian theatrics after the Pehalgam terrorist attack actually pushed the region to the brink of full-scale war between two nuclear powers.

Ironically, the whole plot was revolving around the issue of terrorism and the involvement of Indian state actors in fabrication of false optics needs no further proofs. The recent India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025 has increased tensions in the region, with the US stepping in to broker a ceasefire. However, ongoing hostilities and refusal to negotiate a truce threaten to push the situation towards a catastrophic outcome, putting countless lives at risk and destabilizing the entire region. Role of UNO is very important in resolving the contentious issues between traditional rivals like India and Pakistan. Unfortunately, requisite efficacy is still missing. As a matter of principal, Pakistan should raise the terrorism specific genuine concerns at the 80th session of the UNGA with a clear aim to seek international support and attention to address what it perceives as Indian aggression and terrorism.

Traditionally, the solution of diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan is always a complicated affair amid peculiar historical conflicts like unresolved Kashmir dispute , nuclear capabilities , ongoing skirmishes and above all obsession of New Dehli to use cross-border terrorism as a coercive weapon. The 80th UNGA’s focus on global peace must consider Pakistan’s experience with state-sponsored terrorism, fueled by India’s backing of terror groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Afghanistan’s failure to curb cross-border attacks. With over 80,000 lives lost and $150 billion in economic damage, Pakistan’s resilience in the face of terrorism is notable. The international community should take note of these challenges. Pakistan is facing extra-ordinary threats from Indian-backed proxies in Balochistan, such as the banned BLA and BLF – likewise, Afghan-based proxies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, like the banned TTP along with numerous splinter groups . The recent designation of BLA as Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by USA underscores India’s systematic support for these groups. Moreover, emerging evidences of Israeli involvement in India led regional destabilization drive are very disturbing for local stake holders. Initiation of Baluchistan study project by pro-Israel think tank Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) using notorious Baluch separatists is neither coincidence nor a usual intellectual discourse. Such developments indicate a complex externally backed plot to undermine Pakistan’s stability. Pakistan stands firm in its pursuit of peace and regional cooperation, despite challenges posed by India.

Pakistan has persistently demonstrated adherence to international norms with its involvement in UN peacekeeping, advocacy for water cooperation and mediation, In line with the UNGA’s theme of ‘Better Together,’ Pakistan believes that peace in South Asia is a shared responsibility that requires international support and cooperation. As the UNGA is all set to conduct the 80th annual session, its focus on cooperation, peace, human rights, and development starkly contrasts with India’s peace spoiling actions in South Asia. Militaristic approach of New Dehli coupled with unilateral ambitions, sponsorship of hardcore terrorist groups and exploitation of natural resources like river waters not only undermine the UN Charter but also erode trust and cooperation among nations in the region. Let’s see how UNO rehashes its ways to fill-up the gaps.
