Pakistan, China explore EVs, drones, and robotics collaboration

Published on: August 30, 2025 6:37 PM

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, met the CEO of Huaguan, a leading Chinese company, on August 29, 2025, to discuss expanding cooperation in key technological sectors, including electric vehicles (EVs), lithium batteries, robotics, and drones. This meeting comes ahead of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s scheduled visit to China.

During the meeting, Haroon Akhtar emphasized the government’s focus on electric vehicles as a crucial element for Pakistan’s future. He stressed that EVs could significantly reduce environmental pollution and lessen Pakistan’s reliance on oil imports. “Electric vehicles are the future,” he said, underscoring their importance for sustainable growth.

The discussions also touched on the growing importance of lithium batteries for energy storage. The CEO of Huaguan highlighted the company’s efforts in producing drones powered by lithium batteries for agricultural applications. These developments, according to both parties, could play a transformative role in various industries, particularly in energy storage and agriculture.

Furthermore, the SAPM highlighted the expanding global use of robotics and drones, particularly in healthcare, agriculture, and daily life. He noted the potential of drones for rescue operations, especially in natural disasters such as floods. This technology could support humanitarian efforts in Pakistan and contribute to disaster relief operations.

The meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral ties through joint ventures and business-to-business cooperation. Haroon Akhtar expressed confidence that the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit would open new avenues for collaboration, investment, and economic growth between the two nations. He believes these partnerships could be pivotal in Pakistan’s economic development, providing fresh opportunities for technological advancement.
