Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced major steps to support poor communities, especially laborers, by launching housing and development schemes across the province. She shared that the government had released Rs74 billion in interest-free loans, which enabled the poor to build a record 62,500 houses. These houses were mostly built by working-class citizens, proving that when given support, they can build a better future for themselves.
In the next phase, the government will launch the “Apna Ghar and Apni Zamin Programme” in 19 districts. This plan will provide houses to people who do not own land or have the money to buy it. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the government is working hard to ease the struggles of the underprivileged. She added that because of these pro-people policies, visible change is being felt across many sectors in the province.
Moreover, the chief minister shared that the Punjab Development Plan is solving long-standing issues like drainage and sewerage in multiple cities. She also highlighted efforts to supply clean drinking water in South and Upper Punjab, costing billions of rupees. The government is also developing 24,000 model villages and plans to run 100 electric buses that will offer quality transport services for just Rs20 per ride.
Maryam Nawaz also stated that laborers building their own homes will repay the interest-free loans over nine years. She receives daily video briefings on this progress. In addition, the government is providing free medicines to patients suffering from cancer, heart disease, and hepatitis. Over 10,000 mobile clinics are operating daily to serve people at their doorsteps, especially in areas where healthcare was once unavailable.
Furthermore, to ensure safety, the Crime Control Department has improved law enforcement efforts. The CM claimed that due to strict action, even dangerous criminals are now seeking forgiveness. She also spoke against opposition protests, stating that the public is now aware of their disruptive politics and has rejected their calls. Maryam Nawaz reassured citizens that her government is dedicated to ending inequality and building a strong, fair future for all.
