ISLAMABAD – The government is speeding up efforts to modernize Pakistan Railways with a strong focus on the ML-1 corridor. Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said ML-1 is a top priority. This major railway line upgrade aims to improve travel time, safety, and overall service quality. He added that modernization will bring railway infrastructure closer to global standards.
Alongside infrastructure, digital transformation is gaining pace. The RABTA ticketing app now connects with 16 banks and mobile payment systems like Easypaisa and JazzCash. These steps make ticket buying easier for passengers across the country. Digitalization efforts also include online systems for train inquiries, inspections, staff attendance, and freight tracking.
Abbasi also stressed digital access for passengers at railway stations. Forty stations in Punjab are now being equipped with free Wi-Fi. The project is supported by the Punjab government. This move will help travelers stay connected and informed during their journeys.
Most of the digital systems are near completion, according to the minister. These upgrades are part of wider reforms to make Pakistan Railways efficient, transparent, and passenger-friendly. He said the digital shift will improve day-to-day operations and boost public trust.
With ML-1 and digitalization moving forward, Pakistan Railways aims for a more modern future. The government hopes these efforts will attract investment, improve service, and better connect cities and regions across the country.
