Pakistan has asked global social media companies to take strong action against terrorist content online. The government also invited these companies to open offices in Pakistan to improve cooperation. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary said the country is building digital defenses, not silencing free speech. He called the initiative a part of Pakistan’s long-standing fight against terrorism.
Chaudhary said extremist groups like TTP, ISKP, BLA, and BLF are using platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and X to spread hate. They also use social media to recruit young people. He stated that over 2,400 complaints about terror content are under review. Therefore, platforms must respond quickly and take stronger action using advanced technology.
He urged companies to use AI tools to identify and delete such content faster. The minister emphasized that Pakistan has always stood strong against terrorism. International laws already ban groups like ISKP and TTP, adding weight to Pakistan’s demands. He said companies must also share user data with authorities to track networks.
Law Minister Barrister Aqeel reminded that promoting terrorism online is a serious crime under PECA. He warned that those involved will face legal action. The government wants social media companies to install automatic detection systems and block terror-linked accounts.
Finally, Pakistan asked these companies to open in-country offices to support digital monitoring. Officials said this will boost coordination and response time. Chaudhary concluded by calling for global cooperation. He said the effort is vital for peace, security, and protecting youth from radicalisation.
