France joins push for Palestinian state

Published on: July 25, 2025 12:32 PM

France will officially recognize a Palestinian state during a United Nations meeting in September, announced President Emmanuel Macron. This move makes France the most influential European country to recognize Palestine, joining over 140 nations.

Consistent with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine.

I will make this solemn announcement before the United Nations General Assembly this coming September.… pic.twitter.com/VTSVGVH41I

Macron stated the priority is ending the war in Gaza and building a peaceful, viable Palestinian state. He also urged full recognition of Israel to ensure peace and security across the region. The announcement has been welcomed by several countries, but harshly criticized by Israel and the United States.

Saudi Arabia praised France’s “historic” step, calling it a strong move toward justice for Palestinians. The Saudi Foreign Ministry encouraged other nations to take similar action and support a two-state solution based on 1967 borders. The Palestinian Authority also welcomed Macron’s decision, calling it a major step toward Palestinian self-determination. Palestinian official Hussein al Sheikh thanked France for backing international law and supporting their cause. These statements highlight growing international support for Palestinian statehood.

The United States strongly rejects @EmmanuelMacron’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state at the @UN general assembly.

This reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back peace. It is a slap in the face to the victims of October 7th.

— Secretary Marco Rubio (@SecRubio) July 25, 2025

However, the recognition triggered sharp backlash from Israel and the United States. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the decision dangerous and a reward for terrorism. He warned that it would encourage Iran and destabilize the region. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also condemned Macron’s move. He claimed it would help Hamas and harm prospects for peace in the Middle East. Both leaders argue that the timing undermines peace efforts and supports hostile forces.

Pakistan Strongly Condemns Israel’s Illegal Annexation Attempt in the Occupied West Bank.

— Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Pakistan (@ForeignOfficePk) July 25, 2025

Pakistan condemned Israel’s attempt to claim sovereignty over the West Bank. Islamabad called it a violation of international law and a threat to peace. The Pakistani Foreign Office said Israel’s actions were provocative and aimed at deepening its illegal occupation. Pakistan urged the international community to stop Israel’s aggressive moves and support a fair solution. Other nations like Canada and Australia also criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Israel’s war on Gaza continues to cause immense human suffering. Since October 2023, more than 58,000 Palestinians have been killed, including thousands of children. Over 139,000 people have been injured, and many remain missing. Israel faces war crimes charges at the International Criminal Court and a genocide case at the International Court of Justice. A proposed 60-day ceasefire deal includes plans for aid and the release of hostages. However, peace remains distant as violence and political tensions escalate.
