Small plane crashes on Italian highway, two dead

Published on: July 24, 2025 12:39 PM

A small plane crashed onto a busy highway in Italy, killing the pilot and his female companion on the spot. The crash also caused several cars to catch fire, leaving two drivers injured. The tragic incident occurred near Brescia and was captured on video, showing the Freccia RG aircraft falling straight from the sky and exploding on impact.

According to local reports, the victims were 75-year-old pilot and lawyer Sergio Ravaglia from Milan, and his 60-year-old partner, Ann Maria De Stefano. Eyewitnesses said the pilot appeared to be attempting an emergency landing, but lost control due to a failure to stabilize the aircraft’s speed. The plane spun out of control and crashed with full force onto the road.

Following the crash, thick black smoke and flames covered the highway as multiple vehicles passed through the burning wreckage. Emergency services, including firefighters, arrived quickly and worked to extinguish the fire, but the aircraft was already completely destroyed. Two injured drivers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Italian flight safety authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash. A flight safety advisor is expected to arrive in Brescia to begin the analysis. Meanwhile, the public prosecutor’s office has started an inquiry into possible involuntary manslaughter, although no one has yet been officially charged.

The aircraft involved was a Freccia RG ultralight plane made of carbon fiber, with a wingspan of about 30 feet. It is known for its lightweight design but requires skilled handling. The plane went down suddenly, leaving little time for rescue or preventive measures.

Authorities are now examining the wreckage to check for any technical faults or maintenance issues. As investigations continue, questions remain over what caused such a sudden and fatal crash on one of Italy’s busiest highways.
