As heavy rains and flash floods continue across Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed telecom companies to ensure uninterrupted mobile and internet services in affected regions. To handle the emergency effectively, PTA has activated the National Emergency Telecommunication Coordination Centre (NETCC) for real-time coordination and support.
All telecom operators must now implement their emergency contingency plans without delay. According to the PTA advisory, companies are required to secure telecom infrastructure in sensitive or flood-prone areas and respond immediately to any technical disruption by informing PTA Headquarters.
In a major step, operators are instructed to submit service restoration updates every six hours. Moreover, companies must deploy temporary mobile units in disaster-hit areas to maintain coverage and communication. The advisory emphasizes that services like SIMs, balance recharge, and customer support should continue without any break.
To support public safety, PTA has asked operators to broadcast flood alerts, evacuation details, and emergency contact numbers. These messages must be shared in both national and regional languages to ensure everyone receives the critical information during this crisis.
Additionally, telecom franchises in flooded zones must stay open and accessible to handle customer issues. Teams should be available at top-up points to resolve complaints, and trained field staff must be deployed at local and regional levels to ensure swift on-ground response.
With more rainfall expected in coming days, PTA’s strict directions aim to keep essential communication lines open. This move is especially vital for helping rescue teams, relief workers, and affected citizens stay connected during emergency situations.
