Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Dir arrested two men on Monday after they opened fire in a busy market, injuring three people, including two children. The suspects—a man and his son—were caught soon after the incident in Mayar Bazaar, according to a police press release.
Spokesperson Adnan Haider told that the shooting was the result of a family dispute over money. The main target was the suspect’s brother-in-law, who was injured in the attack. Unfortunately, two children passing by at the time were also caught in the crossfire. All three victims were taken to Mayar Hospital for treatment.
The injured children are residents of Shekhanu Kaly, a nearby village. Police registered an FIR and confirmed that both suspects are in custody. The investigation is ongoing and will cover the motives, the weapon used, and the family history behind the attack. Police said they aim to “fully expose all aspects of the incident.”
The District Police Officer (DPO) praised the officers for their quick action and assured citizens that security forces remain alert. He added that protecting public life is the police’s top priority and that those involved in such violence will face strict legal action.
Sadly, this case is part of a growing pattern. Domestic and financial disputes in Pakistan often escalate into deadly violence. Earlier this month, four people were killed in Nowshera over a similar conflict. In Charsadda, a man shot his own son and daughter-in-law after an argument—highlighting a serious need for better conflict resolution and stronger legal enforcement.
