The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced plans to open three new mega registration centers in Karachi. These centers will be set up in Malir Cantt, Malir, and Surjani Town. According to NADRA spokesperson Syed Shabbahat Ali, the goal is to reduce crowds and make the registration process easier. These centers aim to help citizens access services faster and with less hassle.
In a press briefing, the spokesperson shared key updates to identity laws. Now, birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates will be issued by Union Councils. Changes have also been made to the Child Registration Certificate (CRC). Children under 3 will get CRCs without photos. Children between 3 and 10 must have photos and biometrics. From ages 10 to 18, a new CRC with updated biometrics will be required.
Another major change is related to the B-Form. NADRA has added children’s photos to it. Old B-Forms will remain valid, but not for passports. To get a passport, a child must have a new CRC. Each child will now receive an individual B-Form. Families can check all their registration details using NADRA’s mobile app.
The spokesperson also discussed updates to the Family Registration Certificate (FRC). People can now correct any errors in their FRC. NADRA has given FRC the legal status for use in inheritance and other matters. If someone got their ID card illegally, they can return it voluntarily without facing legal action—for now.
Lastly, NADRA introduced a new option for married women. They can now choose to list either their father’s or husband’s name on their ID. NADRA stressed that its records are fully secure. Investigations are ongoing against corrupt staff, including ex-chairpersons. NADRA promised zero tolerance against corruption to ensure transparency and trust.
