Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met with Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channar on Monday to review the province’s political situation and development projects. Their discussion focused on ongoing welfare initiatives and the need to strengthen basic services in South Punjab, with both leaders emphasizing inclusive progress across the region.
The deputy speaker commended CM Maryam’s commitment to infrastructure improvements, especially the large-scale construction and repair of roads across Punjab. He said these efforts are pushing the province toward a new era of sustainable progress and prosperity under her leadership.
Furthermore, Channar praised the recent opening of a burn center in Bahawalpur, calling it a major achievement in providing essential health services in remote areas. He highlighted the government’s focus on public-friendly programs like Field Hospitals, Clinics on Wheels, and the Maryam Nawaz Health Clinic Project as transformative healthcare steps.
He also applauded the Punjab Development Program, describing the vision of equal development in all cities as a “game changer.” Projects such as the Air Ambulance Service and anti-encroachment drives were cited as crucial in improving citizens’ quality of life across the province.
During the meeting, both leaders gave initial approval for setting up a Children’s Hospital in Bahawalpur near the Civil Hospital. CM Maryam asked for a detailed project plan and said Punjab’s development, especially of underserved areas, remains her government’s top concern.
She reaffirmed that integrating South Punjab into the mainstream development agenda is a priority. The CM stressed that her administration is committed to people-centered policies, and Channar concluded by stating that the province is steadily moving toward real progress under her leadership.
