Under the implementation of the “Safe Punjab” vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar, Layyah Police continues effective operations against crime and smuggling. Under the leadership and instructions of DPO Layyah Muhammad Ali Wasim, a series of organized operations are underway across the district, resulting in a recent major success by the police. Police of Thana Karor, in a joint operation with the Special Branch, arrested two smugglers. During the operation, a large quantity of non-custom paid foreign cigarettes was recovered. According to police, 1,150 packs of non-custom paid cigarettes worth Rs. 3 million were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects. Additionally, two vehicles used in smuggling were also taken into custody. DPO Muhammad Ali Wasim stated that so far this year, Layyah Police has recovered foreign cigarettes worth over Rs. 25 million. He further mentioned that this is the ninth major operation against non-custom paid items by Layyah Police in the past six months, which proves the police are fully active and committed to eliminating the menace of smuggling. According to the DPO Layyah, the arrested suspects and the recovered illegal cigarettes have been handed over to the Customs Department for further legal action. Acting upon the clear instructions of the Chief Minister Punjab and IG Punjab, Layyah Police is utilizing all available resources to ensure public safety and eradicate illegal trade.
