Katie Couric reacts to Vogue’s Lauren Sánchez cover

Published on: July 14, 2025 6:27 AM

Katie Couric is sharing her take on Lauren Sánchez’s wedding look. The Today alum weighed in on the Blue Origin space flight crew member’s custom Dolce & Gabbana gown for her June 27 nuptials to Jeff Bezos, which she modeled in a Vogue cover photo released shortly after the ceremony.

“Welcome to the eighties-when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled,” Katie commented on Jack Schlossberg’s Instagram post featuring the image. “Apparently tacky is back.”

Jack, the grandson of former President John F Kennedy, seemed to agree with the observation, responding, “Let’s bring back scrunchies.” As for Lauren, 55, she told the fashion magazine that her vision for her wedding dress was to create “something that evokes a moment.”

“I researched pictures of brides in the 1950s,” she explained. “I wanted to reflect back, and I saw Sophia Loren… and she was in high lace, up to the neck and I said, ‘That’s it. That’s the dress.'”

But most of all, Lauren wanted her gown to reflect who she is now.

“I went into a lot of therapy and it’s changed me in a bunch of ways. But it’s really Jeff,” she shared, adding that he Amazon founder “lets me be unapologetically free.”

Meanwhile, the lavish festivities-which took place in Venice, Italy and drew celebrity guests including Kim Kardashian Leonardo DiCaprio, Usher and Orlando Bloom have drawn criticism from some locals who have expressed concerns about overtourism in the region. In fact, Jenna Bush Hager noted that the publicity surrounding the event would be a deterrent for her.

“It’s very public,” she said of the occasion on the June 26 episode of Jenna & Friends. “There’s protests in Venice, which I personally would hate.”

After all, Jenna made her own 2008 wedding to Henry Hager a decidedly lowkey affair with the help of her parents, former President George W Bush and former first lady Laura Bush.
