ISLAMABAD: Led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary caravan departed from Islamabad to Lahore on Friday, with party leaders clarifying that the journey is solely meant to express solidarity — not to stage a protest.
Before departure, CM Gandapur emphasized that the caravan’s objective is to stand in support of PTI lawmakers recently de-seated from the Punjab Assembly. “Those who think we’re going for a protest should know we’re only expressing solidarity,” he said, addressing media inquiries about the political intent of the move.
Earlier in the day, PTI members of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies gathered at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by party leadership, including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.
During the session, the PTI leaders made it clear that their journey to Lahore is strictly for political dialogue and engagement. “We are not going to indulge in any unconstitutional activity, and there’s no threat of arrests,” they reassured.
Speaking to reporters, CM Gandapur reiterated that their message is one of peace, unity, and respect for democratic values. “Our aim is not to create unrest. We’re moving forward with a message of brotherhood and democratic strength,” he stated.
The PTI delegation is expected to hold various meetings in Lahore, where discussions on the party’s future political strategy and upcoming Senate elections will be on the agenda.
