Humaira Asghar’s brother rushes to claim her remains

Published on: July 10, 2025 9:15 PM

Naveed Asghar, the brother of late actor and model Humaira Asghar Ali, arrived in Karachi on Thursday to claim her body. South DIG Syed Asad Raza confirmed that Naveed came from Lahore and met South SSP Mahazoor Ali and Gizri SHO Farooq Ahmed Sanjrani. He told the police he wanted to take his sister’s remains back to Lahore for burial. Police will formally hand over the body to him after completing necessary procedures.

Earlier, uncertainty surrounded the burial as reports emerged that Humaira’s family had initially refused to accept her body. According to DIG Raza, her father in particular declined when police first contacted the family in Lahore. In response, the Sindh culture department offered to arrange her funeral. Several artists also reached out, expressing willingness to support the burial if no family member stepped forward.

Humaira’s decomposed body was found inside a locked apartment in Ittehad Commercial area, DHA Phase-VI, Karachi. Police discovered it during a court-ordered eviction after the actress failed to pay rent for several months. The disturbing state of her body shocked authorities and the public. While police first estimated she had died about two weeks before the discovery, new medical findings suggest otherwise.

An autopsy conducted at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre revealed she had likely passed away eight to ten months ago. However, investigators are still waiting for histopathological and chemical examination reports to confirm the exact cause of death. DIG Raza stated that if signs of foul play are found, an FIR will be registered and legal action will follow.

Meanwhile, information shared by a woman claiming to be Humaira’s friend on social media remains unverified. Police attempted to contact her, but her phone was switched off. No one has approached authorities directly with helpful information. The case remains open as police continue to investigate the mysterious circumstances of the actress’s death.
