ISLAMABAD – July 10, 2025: Pakistan and the European Union have signed a €20 million grant agreement aimed at enhancing corporate governance and improving the business environment. Signed by EU Ambassador Dr. Reena Kiwanka and Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division Dr. Kazim Niaz, the deal signals shared commitment to sustainable and inclusive economic development.
Under the €275–2021 Multiannual Indicative Programme, the grant will support private sector growth—especially SMEs. It will focus on businesses led by women or benefiting them, including initiatives that help transition export-based industries toward a green economy and strengthen investment partnerships between the public and private sectors.
As part of the reform package, the programme will also support SME-related legal reforms, supply chain upgrades, and encourage export diversification. The EU’s grant aligns with its Global Gateway, GSP+, and Green Deal strategies, reinforcing green jobs, resilient markets, and sustainable investment in Pakistan.
In his remarks, Secretary Dr. Kazim Niaz praised the EU’s continuing support, noting the timing complements “Udaan Pakistan,” the government’s flagship initiative to empower the private sector and push forward institutional reforms that attract responsible investment.
EU Ambassador Dr. Reena Kiwanka underscored that the grant reflects the union’s commitment to building a stronger and more competitive Pakistani economy. She emphasized the importance of women-led businesses and public–private partnerships (PPPs) as key drivers of a sustainable, prosperous future, while also noting EU support across the areas of governance, climate resilience, and human rights.
