Qatari PM condemns Iranian attack, warns of strained ties

Published on: June 24, 2025 4:26 PM

Doha: Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman expressed surprise and concern over the recent Iranian missile attack on Qatar. Speaking at a joint press conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, he called the attack unacceptable and a violation of diplomatic norms. He said the incident was a shock to the Qatari people and strongly condemned the aggression.

The Qatari Prime Minister warned that the attack would affect relations between Qatar and Iran. However, he expressed hope that the longstanding neighborly ties between the two countries would not be damaged despite the incident.

Sheikh Mohammed praised the role of Qatar’s military in defending the country. He highlighted that the Qatari air defense successfully intercepted and stopped the Iranian missile attack, safeguarding Qatar’s sovereignty.

He also emphasized Qatar’s ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions and welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel. The Prime Minister thanked the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and friendly states for their support and expressed hope for normalized relations between Lebanon and its neighboring countries.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, speaking at the same press conference, expressed solidarity with Qatar over the attack. He also condemned Israeli strikes on Iran, calling them a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and stating that Iran’s sovereignty must be respected under all circumstances.
