Trump faces toughest decision yet: will the U.S. join Israel in striking Iran?

President Donald Trump is at a critical crossroads as he considers whether the United States should join Israel’s military strikes against Iran. After rushing back from the G7 summit in Canada, Trump hinted at possible U.S. intervention, stating that America could target Iran’s supreme leader — but “not for now.” This moment may define his foreign policy legacy in the Middle East.

Throughout both of his presidential terms, Trump has promised to end America’s “forever wars.” However, this escalating conflict is testing that vow. According to U.S. officials, Trump is reviewing military options, including the use of massive “bunker-buster” bombs aimed at Iran’s underground Fordow nuclear facility — a target Israeli strikes can’t reach. The priority remains dismantling Iran’s nuclear program, which the West suspects is intended to produce nuclear weapons.

Even though Trump had recently favored diplomacy, signs now suggest a shift in tone. Reports indicate he may allow his top negotiator to meet again with Iran’s foreign minister, but tensions remain high. The President has made it clear that any attack on U.S. forces will be met with a strong response, saying he won’t tolerate even “a hair on the back of an American” being harmed.

Trump’s recent actions — including deploying the USS Nimitz and sending military aircraft to the region — add to speculation that military involvement is close. His frequent talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has openly hinted at regime change in Iran, have also influenced the President’s changing stance.

Yet, resistance is building within Trump’s own political base. Many from his “America First” movement oppose another war. In response, Vice President JD Vance defended Trump’s position, assuring supporters that any military move would serve American interests alone. “He’s earned our trust,” Vance said, emphasizing Trump’s past restraint.

As the pressure mounts, Trump appears to be leaning on faith. He reposted a message from U.S. ambassador Mike Huckabee that called on divine guidance. “You have many voices speaking to you, Sir,” Huckabee wrote. “But there is only ONE voice that matters — HIS.” With the world watching, Trump’s next move could reshape the future of the Middle East.
