ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has successfully evacuated 450 pilgrims from Iran amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, with more evacuations expected from both Iran and Iraq in the coming days.
The move follows a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting sites in Iran on Friday, including suspected nuclear facilities. Israel claims the attacks aim to halt Iran’s nuclear capabilities—an allegation Tehran denies, maintaining its program is peaceful.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed in a post on social media platform X that the Pakistani government is taking urgent steps to protect its citizens in the conflict zone. He also announced that evacuation efforts are underway for Pakistani students, with the first batch of 154 students already scheduled for return.
Dar further stated that the Pakistani embassy in Iraq is maintaining constant contact with pilgrims stranded due to regional airspace closures. “Efforts are ongoing to ensure their safety and assist in evacuation,” he reassured.
The Foreign Office’s Crisis Management Unit is working 24/7 and remains reachable at +92 51-9207887 or via email at [email protected] for those seeking help or updates. The Foreign Office also urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran and Iraq due to the worsening security conditions.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all relevant departments to extend full support in ensuring the protection and safe return of Pakistani nationals across the affected areas.
