Kuwait has introduced new mosque guidelines to cut electricity use due to rising power demand. The Ministry of Awqaf issued these changes after a request from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy. Now, mosques will hold daily prayers in outdoor courtyards instead of indoor halls. Air conditioning must be limited to 25°C, except on Fridays when it’s allowed indoors at 22°C. Women’s sections will stay closed unless religious sessions are held. Moreover, imams have been told to shorten the time between adhan and iqama, especially for Dhuhr and Asr. The prayer duration must also be brief to lower energy use. In addition, scheduled power cuts will affect mosques across Kuwait. Blackouts will occur after Dhuhr and Asr prayers to further reduce energy pressure. These steps are part of a wider energy-saving effort.
