The increase in local music consumption is reflected in Spotify’s report, which shows a 54 percent rise in Pakistani listeners tuning in to homegrown music. Notably, the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, known for his soulful qawwali performances, also made it into the top five, marking a historic moment for Pakistani music. “Jhol,” a song by Mannu and Annural Khalid, became the most-streamed local track of 2024, while Anuv Jain’s “Husn” topped the global charts. The top albums list also witnessed a diverse mix of genres, with Umair’s “Rockstar without a Guitar” leading the pack, followed by Talha Anjum’s “Open Letter” and Imran Khan’s “Unforgettable.”
