LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has imposed a ban on marketing and free sampling of infant formula milk at hospitals.
This decision was made at a meeting with Formula Milk Association office-bearers at the PFA Headquarters on Tuesday, which was chaired by PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal.
The meeting decided that the PFA would set the ingredients and standards of formula milk, and that the companies must get prior approval from the authority’s scientific panel regarding their products’ ingredients and marketing.
The PFA said that nutrition of children was its first priority because they were the future of Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, the DG hoped that multinational companies would meet the intentional standards and follow rules and regulations while marketing their products. “Formula milk is not a substitute for mother’s milk,” he said.
