GUJRANWALA: Youm-e-Ashur was observed in Gujranwala amid tight security measures on Sunday. The mourning processions were taken out from different imambargahs while the main procession was taken out from Imambargah Gulistan-e-Marfat which culminated at the same place after passing through its fixed route. Heavy contingent of police and law enforcement personnel had the procession route cordoned off and no untoward incidents were reported from any part of the city. A number of Majalis were held at different places where religious scholars highlighted the significance of the sacrifices rendered by Karbala`s martyrs and called upon the Ummah to follow in the footsteps of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS). Meanwhile, fivee passengers travelling to United Arab Emirates (UAE) were apprehended at the Sialkot International Airport by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The passengers: Muhammad Asad, Altaf Hussain, Muhammad Jamil, Muhammad Naveed and Syed Rahid Ali, were initially found to be traveling with suspicious travel documents. The FIA conducted a thorough inspection of the passengers’ luggage and as a result recovered 12 gateway electronic devices, 28 laptops, 25 Intel core processors, 200 mobile boxes without mobile kits, 1,475 eye lenses, 25 eyes lens cleaners, 942 data storage devices, one radiator, 88 different mobiles and 15 mobile tablets. During the interrogation, the passengers could not justify travelling with those items to FIA officers. Separately, the FIA, in two different raids, arrested a proclaimed offender and a land route agent on Monday. The proclaimed offender Aqdas Azeem, a police constable, was arrested from Gujranwala in a corruption case, while land route agent Muhammad Ikram was arrested from Mandi Bahauddin over his alleged involvement in human trafficking.
