Sir: Watching the televised debate in the National Assembly on September 2 was painful inasmuch as it focused on the deployment of the army in aid of civil power. The skewed logic of an MNA equating the peaceful sit-in with an armed attack, and the subsequent deaths and injuries to thousands of civilians were excruciatingly hurtful. On top of it, making the ridiculous demand for entangling the army in purely police duties to clear up the capital of political agitators crossed all limits. We could only mourn at the complete absence of logic and common sense in the debate. M Zafar Karachi
