Sir: Karachi is undoubtedly Pakistan’s most important city both economically and culturally, a mini-Pakistan as they call it. The cultural and ethnic diversity of the city is undeniable. People from different ethnicities, religions and statuses share a similar ground here. However, politically it remains an unpredictable city where the situation can change within seconds because of a single phone call. A single call can spread terror, a single call can shut down all businesses, a single call can close educational institutions and a single call can empty the city streets. For instance right now, MQM workers are out on the streets after a single call by their leader Altaf Hussain and they have brought the city to a standstill. Not that I am against any political party or the government but it is interesting how the lives of Karachites depend on such minute things. We citizens do not demand much but a pinch of peace in our lives. RIDA NIAZKarachi
