Mithi, Tharparkar: US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) of Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) in collaboration with National Rural Support Program (NRSP) celebrated World Water Day at Gymkhana Club Badin. On this occasion, Allah Dino Chandio, Vice Chairman District Council Badin said that water is precious commodity and it has been wasted at large volume, as it has been taken as granted. He said that if the price of water is to be fixed at par with fuel i.e. patrol and deisal then the people will know how it is important. Mr. Chandio emphasized on government institutes as well as on the civil society to launch massive campaign for saving the water resources. Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Deputy Director Academic and Research at USPCAS-W gave a comprehensive presentation on wastewater, which is the theme of the day for the year 2017. Dr. Mahar said that due increase in population in Pakistan, the water resources are being limited and now the country is facing water scarcity in urban population for domestic use and in rural areas for use of agriculture. He said that the grey water – a kind of wastewater can be treated with modern techniques and it can be reused for domestic purpose. He said that untreated water because various water borne endemic and fatal diseases which affects the health of huge population especially the children up to the 5 year age. He further gave a detailed presentation on the various water saving, disinfection and treatment techniques which can be used by community for their better health. Mr. Zaheer Khoso, program manager NRSP Badin briefed about the intervention of NRSP in communities for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) practices. On this occasion, Mr. Muhammad Ishtiaq Rao , Director, Drainage & Reclamation Institute of Pakistan (DRIP), Pakistan Council of Research In Water Resources (PCRWR) Tandojam, Mr. Abdul Ghaffar Khoso, Deputy Director Social Welfare Department Badin, USPCAS-W faculty Ms. Uzma Imran, Ms. Rakhsinda Bano, MS Student Mr. Faris Ahmed Bhatti spoke on the theme of the day.
