Sweepers suspended for dumping blast victims’ remains

Published on: February 18, 2017 9:02 PM

SEHWAN SHARIF: Sehwan administration suspended two sweepers on Saturday for dumping remains of victims of Thursday’s suicide blast, at Sufi Saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandars’ shrine, in the garbage.

According to reports of a private television channel, Municipal Officer Asif Shah suspended two sweepers for the disturbing incident which has caused outrage on social media. The body parts of Thursday’s bomb blast victims were found from garbage dump.

The private television channel recorded videos of the scene where body parts could be seen covered up in cloths and plastic bags, and being eaten by dogs.

The concerned authorities did not bury the remains of some of the people killed in the suicide blast; instead, they threw the body parts into a garbage disposal near a residential area on outskirts of Sehwan.

This dishonouring triggered grief and anger among locals who condemned the ruler’s apathy. They said that dogs were also seen eating the remains.Sindh Transport Minister Nasir Shah vowed action against those involved in the incident. He said it was local town administration’s laxity.

When asked, Jamshoro Deputy Commissioner MunawarMahesar said that he had personally looked over the collection of body parts of people killed in the attack. The deputy commissioner said he was not sure how the remains were found lying by the nullah. He maintained that the matter was being looked into.

However, he added, if the hair of the deceased got swept away while cleaning the premises then that is another matter. “But body parts cannot be thrown away,”Mahesar said.

However, while speaking to the media, Jamshoro SSP Tariq Wilayat said that after such a large number of casualties, small parts of organs are mixed with blood and hence cleaned away.

Expressing anger, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered an investigation into the matter. “I am very hurt do not add to my grief,” the chief minister was quoted as saying.

At least 88 people were killed in the suicide bombing which took place on Thursday during the dhamaal at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
