Sir: A few days ago, the chief minister Punjab ordered the traffic police to enforce traffic rules on the roads stringently. What to do when traffic sergeants, for doing their duty, are beaten up by the VIPs?
Reportedly, son and the gunman of MPA Shaukat Manzoor Cheema beat up the traffic warden on duty when the latter checked VIP’s car for violating one-way traffic rule. As the good son thrashed the warden, his illustrious father, the lawmaker, was in the car. Warden Nauman Wattoo was only doing his duty he is paid for. To his bad luck, he checked the lawmaker of the ruling party for breaking a serious traffic rule — going against one-way traffic. Warden Wattoo forgot to remember the basic rule of performing duty: a minion should never check a VIP.
MPA Shaukat Cheema’s son who is under training of his father may soon be a lawmaker, who knows. It was kind of the people around to rescue the warden. But it was thoughtless of the MPA to thrash the warden. The people are sick of the VIP culture; they might have misbehaved with the MPA and his son. Seeing public anger, the security guard would have quickly disappeared from the scene. CM Punjab, please protect the traffic wardens who do their duties honestly.
