‘Empowering local industry essential for strong economy and growth’

Published on: April 14, 2016 6:39 PM

LAHORE: Waves Cool Industries Pvt Limited Managing Director Parvez Butt believes encouraging skilful youth, promoting innovative ideas and empowering the local industry should be the focus areas for the government if we are determined to progress on strong economic footings.

Parvez Butt, ranked among the leading businessmen of the country, was of the view that the government should take initiatives to promote local manufactures and discourage the culture of import.

“Pakistan is blessed with abundant resources and our people are equipped with the best of skills that could help develop the country on modern lines,” he affirmed.

In the past, he lamented, every successful business company had been subjected to unnecessary probes by the government authorities, discouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship and encouraging the culture of bribery and corruption in the government institutes.

“The government must provide incentives to the business community and show leniency towards young entrepreneurs in order to help grow local industry,” Butt pleaded.

On a query, he urged the government to take practical measures and empower the small and medium enterprises. “The youth of the country, which covers almost half of the population, is very talented and sensible, and the ratio of successful Pakistanis living abroad speaks volumes of that talent, once provided with a conducive playing field. It is good to see that youth of present days are not shying away from experimenting, as the culture of entrepreneurship is the only way forward for the country. The government must channelise the talented youth and ultimately utilise it for the country’s growth,” the gritty entrepreneur added.

Reflecting upon the past, he said the idea of establishing a home appliances manufacturing company came over 40 years ago to him and his younger brother Javed Butt. “We started at a very small scale in our own house with limited investment and did most of the manufacturing manually. Initial period in the market was tough as we had to experience a great deal of criticism, at a time when the concept of locally-manufactured deep freezers was not that common,” he added.

Waves Cool Industries (Pvt) Limited was established in 1973 and over the passage of time, grew to become a leading home appliances manufacturing company in Pakistan. “This was achieved due to the untiring and honest efforts of our devoted management, highly-motivated professionals and a dedicated team, which was committed to excel in quality and services,” Parvez Butt said, adding that the company possesses highly-skilled professionals, responding rapidly to the market needs.

With the most modern and high-tech CAD manufacturing facilities, the products of Cool Industries capture over 80 percent of the local market for refrigerators, deep freezers, air-conditioners, washing machines, microwave ovens and other home appliances, with its production ratio exceeding the overall production of Pakistan’s appliances’ manufacturers.

Parvez Butt said the company’s highly qualified engineers and its technical staff is always prepared to provide prompt services all over the country with its humongous service network.

“We also have the biggest network of split air-conditioner installation and an extremely qualified and efficient staff at our factory that constantly comes up with innovative ideas, in line with the need of market,” he added.

On a query, the MD opined that quality in customer service is another aspect that the company thrives on, adding that utilising the best out of the team is very important from a managerial point of view to stay one step ahead in the market. “Apart from manufacturing state-of-the-art appliances, we also possess the best team in repairing air-conditioners in Pakistan. We give prompt response to our customers and meet the complaints on the same day exclusively. Besides, we have the largest network of services in the country with 17 service centres and 154 contract workshops.”

For enhanced quality assurance, he said his company stays in touch with every customer within the warranty period and take their valuable feedback through the company’s free check-up scheme.

“The feedback of the customers is taken very seriously and the company makes sure to implement it in a constructive way. The idea behind these extensive services comes with the Cool Industries’ vision, which is to streamline the ethics of operating a business in Pakistan besides setting a benchmark of quality standards in the industry,” the managing director added.
