KARACHI: The road communication in Karachi has been completely destroyed after monsoon rains, and a heavy traffic jam on metropolitan roads has left already them in dilapidated condition, with potholes and ditches to boot. Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) has forecast flood alert for 2016 and another monsoon wave across Karachi and other parts of Sindh, emergency government office phones are unattended and with holidays just around the corner, attendance in offices was particularly low.
According to the details, several locations of Karachi metropolitan roads leading to the National Highway at Malir, Qaidabad to Steel Town, Mehran Highway at Bin Qasim, Korangi Industrial road at Daud Chowrangi and other areas effectively became highways to hell due to excess waterlogging.
After torrential rains on Thursday, there were power outages in all parts of the metropolitan city in several areas, resulting in hundreds of vehicles stuck in traffic jams on the roads in Karachi. Most roads in Karachi, particularly Shahrahe-Faisal, Governor House road to Chief Minister, Airport Malir road to Qaidabad, Korangi Industrial area, Nazimabad, North Karachi and other locations bore heavy traffic jams due to vehicles stuck in potholes and ditches.
Private vehicle owners and commuters on buses, coaches and cars have been irked by dilapidated roads in Karachi and prolonged traffic jams. It is also pertinent to mention here that all official activities would be suspended due to Eid celebrations. The staff and officials of the government departments left for their native home towns, resulting in the offices giving off a deserted look on Friday.
Daily Times tried to contact the administrator, TMAs and other Deputy Commissioners as well send messages to the staff but various attempts failed. This scribe also attempted to call and message Local Government Sindh Minister Jam Khan Shoro on his mobile for his version of department activities, but no response was forthcoming.
While talking to Daily Times after repeated calls and messages, Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) Administrator Laeeq Ahmed said that currently no funds had been released by the Finance Department.
