The rise and reign of Alizeh Shah

Published on: November 10, 2020 11:10 AM

Alizeh Shah needs no introduction at this point. She has become a household name, and has established herself as one of the most watched, and admired faces of the Pakistani television industry. But let’s give talk about her a bit for a handful of those who have only recently discovered this young starlet.

Alizeh Shah first faced television at the age of six alongside Wasim Akram in a television commercial. She made her small screen debut when she appeared in a small but noticeable role in Tere Naal Love Hogaya. She further graced our screens back in 2016 in the drama serial Choti Si Zindagi in a supporting role opposite Shahzad Sheikh and Iqra Aziz. She then followed it up with another slew of supporting characters in shows like Daldal, Ishq Tamasha for which she won a Hum Award for Best Television Sensation Female, Dil Mom Ka Diya, Tum Mujrim Ho, Bisaat-e-Dil, and Baandi to name a few. Shah’s first lead role came with drama serial Hoor Pari in which she portrayed the character of Gul Naz.

The year 2019 proved to be a turning point in Shah’s career. She appeared stalwarts Mahira Khan, Bilal Ashraf, and Nadeem Baig among others in the movie Superstar. She portrayed the character of Chutki, the protagonist’s effervescent and lively sister. Her performance and chemistry with Khan was praised by film critics, as well as holding her own while sharing the screen with seasoned and experienced actors. She was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category at the Pakistan International Screen Awards.

Fresh off her silver screen debut, Shah next appeared in one of her most prominent central characters till date in the drama serial Jo Tu Chahey opposite Imran Abbas. She played the character of Mashal, an orphan who falls prey to family politics, and greedy relatives who use her for their own benefit. She received critical appreciation for lending immense maturity to her character despite being less than twenty years of age. Even her pairing with Abbas was loved by audiences and critics alike.

The same year, Shah essayed the role of Dua opposite Ahad Raza Mir in the coming off age drama Ehd-e-Wafa. She played Mir’s character, Saad’s, love interest. After Shah’s last outing that was intense, and heavy on emotions, she mixed it up with Dua who was bubbly, mischievous, and affable. Again, she earned brownie points for her performance and audiences found another fresh pairing in Shah and Mir.

Shah began 2020 with the blockbuster television series Mera Dil Mera Dushman, a family drama about love, relationships, strained relationships and matters of fate and karma. Shah played the character of Mairah, a girl who ends up marrying a man twice her age because of barriers, and hurdles that were planted in her way by her own family. The show was another emotionally heavy project for Shah who portrayed it with earnestness and aplomb. From the very first episode to the last, the acclaim for Shah’s performance was unanimous from fans, audiences, and critics alike.

Shah has always been appreciated for her performances, and the variety of roles she has selected ovcr the course of her career. She has chosen scripts that have ranged from genres such as comedy, romantic dramas, familial ties. Her acting is appreciated for being mature, earnest, and honest. Shah always adds a sense of newness to each project that she has been a part of.

Apart from her movie and television projects, Shah is a young social media sensation with almost three million followers. She is also appreciated for her fashion sense, her off-screen charming personality, and her live talk show interviews. They are fun, fresh, and always show us a relatable side of her personality. Maybe this is the reason why she has gained immense popularity in such a short span of time.

Fans are excitedly waiting for her next project, and we are sure it will be amazing, just like everything she does. We wish her all the best.
