Ian Watmore, the new head of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has said that the English team should “definitely” visit Pakistan.
“It would be great for us and for the game to bring cricket back,” Watmore said in a statement.
“Pakistan is hosting cricket again and we must go and visit Pakistan, It is safe for cricket,” he said.
It may be recalled that the England team did not visit Pakistan after 2005-06 while all the major teams of the world did not visit Pakistan for a decade after the attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009.
Last month, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani said that England’s next tour of Pakistan would not take place at neutral venues.
“I don’t think there will be any reason for England not to come. I’m very clear that we won’t play in neutral venues. We either play in Pakistan or we won’t play.”
Pakistan yesterday finished their tour of England against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic that have affected all sports around the globe.
Notably, Pakistan played and trained in a bio-secure bubble, with the three Tests and three T20I matches, all held behind closed doors.
