ISLAMABAD: In a letter written by the Emergency and Disaster Management (E&DM) unit of the CDA to the Chairman, Pakistan Telecom Authority, it has been urged to take stern action against radiation spreading thorough the towers of various telecoms and put them away from densely populated areas as they pose grave dangers to the health of the masses.
The letter citing the sources from the Internet and different websites, reads that mobile towers are causing critical health constraints across Pakistan, especially in Islamabad.
It further adds that the trend of these towers is responsible to give birth to “billions of complicated diseases like brain tumors, high blood pressure, high blood sugars, glaucoma etc followed by carcinoma like homicides”.
The letter also alleges that, “The rate of sudden strokes, cardiac arrests, heart attacks, liver tribulations and overall body response & well-being has been adversely affected due to high-grade radiations thrown by these towers within the residential areas in particular and generally every bit and corner of the capital city”. It adds that thermal & non thermal effects, blood brain barrier effects, electro-negative hypersensitivity genotypic and cognitive effects, sleep & EEG effects, brain glucose consumption issues and other behavioral and genetic effects are severely bringing surreptitious diseases to the public at large.
It also requested for a policy review, and relocating all such high grade radiation emitting gadgetry away from residential areas, thus assuring the life and safety of innocent residents in every street, sector and colony of Islamabad
The Emergency & Disaster Management unit has also advised steps that can mitigate the damage in future. Starting with a massive awareness campaign for the general public like the tobacco companies a couple of years back, the letter further requests the relocation of these towers away from residential areas away to the suburbs promising the CDA’s enforcement department and Building Control Section will help in all possible ways.
The letter warns of a crackdown against illegally erected towers and also of action that will be taken by law enforcement agencies.
Previously in August 2014, a similar letter was written and sent to the Pakistan Telecom Authority pertaining to towers and the many threats they pose, but to no avail. The D&EM also extends its full support, cooperation and help of any kind, that is necessary to assure greater safety of its residents
While talking to Daily Times the Deputy Director at the Emergency and Disaster Management said that the civic agency was doing its best to ensure the installation of fire prevention equipment in every building to prevent untoward incidents. The directorate is consistently issuing notices to the violators, and at present it says the mobile towers in the residential areas are causing critical health constraints in the federal capital.
